Auto Safety Recalls: Everything You Need to Know

What does Auto Safety Recalls mean for car buyers or car owners?

When your vehicle is subject to an auto safety recall, that means a defect is pointed out and that directly affects you. This exposes you to certain types of threats while using the vehicle since it is about safety.

Once an auto safety recall is issued, your manufacturer takes care of the problem which is free of charge. That means you wouldn’t have to spend on any charges that the repair may incur.

When you receive a notification, all you have to do is follow any safety guidance provided by the manufacturer and contact your car dealership.

How will you know if your car has auto safety recalls?

Owners may not always know their recalled vehicle still needs to be repaired. NHTSA’s new search tool lets you enter a Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to quickly learn if a specific vehicle has not been repaired as part of a safety recall in the last 15 years. Visit safercar.gov to see if there’s a recall on your car.

You can also sign up to receive email recall notifications affecting your model. You can also download the Safercar mobile app for iPhones and for Androids and have recall alerts sent straight to your phone. Another option is for you to subscribe to RSS feeds about safety-related recalls for child restraints, vehicles, and tires.

Does Northtown Auto Sales Fix Open Safety Recalls?

Northtown Auto Sales strives to have all of the open safety recalls on our vehicles completed. Most of our vehicles DO have the recalls completed, however, some of our cars may still have open safety recalls on them.

There are several reasons for this, but at the core is the fact that the current recall system is based on the manufacturer’s relationship with its dealers and registered vehicle owners, and not with independent dealers.

This means that if we have a vehicle and an open recall comes out on that vehicle, the manufacture doesn’t directly notify us. Among other things, this means that manufacturers have not authorized Northtown Auto Liquidators to complete safety recall repairs and close out open safety recalls.
